We have two new releases hitting the shelves at fine record stores everywhere today; Earl Hines’ Tour de Force and Charlie Feathers’ Best of the Sun Record Sessions. Both are available to order in our online shop.
Influential jazz pianist Earl Hines is in top form on Tour de Force, a brilliant solo set which was recorded in November of 1972 in New York City. The recording finds Hines near the peak of his creativity, taking wild chances with time and coming up with fresh new variations on these veteran standards. Now it’s sounding better than ever on this audiophile-grade reissue, which was sourced from original analog tapes and mastered by Bernie Grundman. The record was pressed on 180gram vinyl at Pallas in Germany.
Our newly compiled collection of recordings from rockabilly pioneer Charlie Feathers showcases the influential Memphis performer’s work at Sun Records and related labels. Feathers started his musical career as a session musician at Sun Studios under Sam Phillips. His theatrical, hiccuping vocal style inspired a later generation of rock vocalists, including Lux Interior of The Cramps and Tav Falco, who contributed extensive liner notes and photos for the insert of this release. A limited yellow and black swirl color vinyl edition of the release is exclusively available at independent record stores.
