We couldn’t be more proud of Josh and Yellow Red Sparks for the big win. With over 20,000 entires from 119 countries, and a judging panel consisting of artists like Tom Waits and Jeff Beck, Yellow Red Sparks’ “Monsters With Misdemeanors” took home the grand prize.

From the International Songwriting Competition:

“Winning ISC’s highest honor, the Grand Prize, is Idaho native Joshua Hanson for his song “Monsters With Misdemeanors.” The lead singer of the indie folk/rock trio Yellow Red Sparks, Joshua Hanson is a songwriter of rare ability. His songs are equal parts of captivating lyrics and haunting melodies, imbued with enough passion to stun you with their quiet beauty. He is that incomparable sort of songwriter who spins stories that take seemingly normal circumstances of everyday life and then rewrites them with an uninhibited honesty and wistful beauty. His winning song “Monsters With Misdemeanors” is both chilling and tender, squarely leaving you on a heartfelt emotional ledge.

Originally a moniker for Hanson as a solo performer, Yellow Red Sparks now represents a trio. Together the three recreate his songwriting as so effortlessly demonstrated on their debut self-titled album released in February, 2013. Now based in California, Yellow Red Sparks has already garnered the attention of music tastemakers.”
